Be the Rose, Don’t Buy the Rose

Be the rose, don’t buy the rose.

Learn how to admire the beauty without the desire to have them sent to you, all boxed up and ready to go in a vase for just a few short days.

I was 14 when I got my first rose.

I pressed it in a book so I could hold on to…

What?

That first feeling of “puppy love”?

That first recognition that someone other than family loved me?

Over the years that pressed flower in waxed paper crumbled.

But the love grew deep as young love does. And with it came deep hurts, sorrows and life school lessons, all of which encompass the bud, the leaves, the seed and soil along with the thorns. As with all

Of God’s creations, each part is essential

To the whole.

Without thorns, roses cannot be there-they teach the admirer to smell and experience from afar and not take it for themselves.

Appreciate the beauty but do not “own” it, the thorn reminds us.

Flowers represent a sacred and delicate beauty that are like messagers from another realm-like a bridge between the world of

Physical forms and the formless.

They push through the soil and blossom toward the sun; they open their petals to the light and close in the dark moments; they begin with a seed and stand strong as best they can in the storms.

You are like that rose, that lotus flower too-the common flower symbol used to teach about transformation in all yogic lessons.

We all experience that push through the mud to grow toward the light-

We all grow through adversity and become this amazing emergence of God’s awe and wonder.

Be aware of the whole flowering of consciousness all around you, which includes the thorn that has much to teach you.

Be patient and give yourself grace when the thorns of life prick the skin a bit-for in that moment, healing begins. It may hurt for a short time but as the air gets to it, the journey to rebuild the skin takes flight.

When it comes to a break up or any heart ache after loss, we must allow grieving time to strengthen and heal for the continued love of living. You are still living, remember that. The greatest advice for you-give yourself time to stop and smell the rose fully, breathe it in and breathe it out. Take it one day at a time, Beautiful Soul. You’ve got this.
